Mandatory equipment
Here you will find a version for printing.
The following equipment is mandatory to carry throughout the competition.
- Veterinary handbook – received at registration.
- Magnetic compass.
- Good quality snow shovel.
- Sheath knife, minimum 9 cm blade.
- Sleeping bag for winter conditions. The bag must withstand temperatures below -30° degrees celsius.
- Sleeping mat (min 0.5×1.8 metres).
- Extreme windsack, min 1200 grams. (Jerven, Helsport Bivy Bag or similar), alternatively tent for winter use plus “regular” windsack.
- Extra set of clothes – jacket and trousers protecting from wind and chills, baselayer, benie/hat, mittens/gloves and socks.
- For nome style also replaceable inner shoes or winter boots.
- For nordic style extra insoles and bivi shoes/overboot e.g. Helsport Bivouac Boot Fischer Overboot Speedlock or similar.
- First aid kit for both mushers and dogs. Minimum Vet-Flex, plasters, compression bandages and sports tape. Medications that are doping classed according to the Swedish anti-doping regulations are not allowed. NOTE! The Swedish regulations are stricter than the IFSS regulations.
- Bag r garbage.
- Headlamp plus extra batteries.
- Matches in waterproof packaging.
- Spirit/gasoline/kerosene stove that works in cold. Gas stoves are not approved.
- Fuel, enough to complete the race safely. Minimum 0.5 liter must be brought to the finish line.
- Kettle with tub to heat at least 0.5 liter/dog (only applies for the Nome classes).
- Drop dog lines/wires: To be able to drop off dogs at a checkpoint the musher must have at least as many lines as the number of dogs the team can be reduced with.
- Four socks per dog out of each checkpoint.
- Mushers must bring food for themselves and the dogs to complete the entire race.
- Emergency food – 0.5 kg/dog in a sealed bag that must be unopened at the finish line.
- Emergency food for the musher – one (1) package of freeze-dried food (or similar) to be unopened at the finish line.
- Brake pad in the Nome classes.
- Brake, both in Nome and Nordic classes.
- In all Nome classes – minimum two (2) snow hooks are required on the sledge.
- Thermos, minimum one (1) liter.
- Map: W1 Grövelsjön – Lofsdalen, alternatively trail map in northern Dalarna (SOND) or another current topographic map of the area.
The race management can at any time during the race check the mandatory equipment. Everything brought from the start has to be brought to the finish or be used in an appropriate way during the race.
